Siban is a seasoned, yet aimless, lance-wielding adventurer hailing from the welcoming Kha tribe that roams the fringes of the Azim Steppe. Inspired by certain members of their loving family full of travelers, Siban has pursued a similar life of seeing the world. They journey wherever their whims take them, even across an ocean or two. They make their living doing whatever reputable work they can get their hands on, striving to keep remarkably busy. Then, when activity slows and the restlessness kicks in, they ready themself to venture off once more—sometimes, gil be damned. Despite all that they do, however, Siban remains unsatisfied, feeling as if they continue to lack a purpose that is truly their own.

At a glance, they are calm, graceful, and staunchly independent. They are a master of self-composure and a person with a deep curiosity about others and the world they live in, even if they tend to otherwise play their cards very close to their chest. They pick and choose their words with great precision, even in the most comfortable of company. They tend to begin teasing when they're having fun, showing their sly streak, but they try to tread light enough so as not to cause great offense or harm.

NOTES: They lack the scales on their upper arms that Au Ra typically have and bear some scars, typically in places most often to be at the end of a blade. Mostly covered by clothing regardless. They also do not have limbal rings.

Siban hails from the Kha tribe, a Xaela tribe known for residing along the outskirts of the Azim Steppe and connecting with a variety of other peoples and their cultures. They were born with mixed ancestry of Xaela and Hyur, the latter of which can be traced back to the Coerthan regions of Aldenard.

Siban—as well as their younger brother Jelme—were raised primarily by their father on the steppe following the passing of their mother early into both of their lives. Neither of them know much about her, with all that remains being stories of her from mother to traveling merchant, and the gifts that she would bring home to her children from her travels.

When other relatives would visit, they would bring grand tales of adventure with them that young Siban was captivated by. The weight of their mother's death always seemed to linger when family spoke to her children, but despite the gloom, Siban would remain inspired and determined to one day set out from home like their mother once did. They hoped to see what so fascinated her about the world that she left behind too soon.

At sixteen summers, with their father's permission, Siban alone would travel to Eorzea. Their destination: the Chocobo Forest of the Dravanian Forelands, where their dear maternal aunt, Cassandra, lived in a remote cottage. She awaited her beloved nibling's arrival in Tailfeather, ready to train them to make the most of their polearm proficiency and adventurous spirit.

They would shadow Cassandra for years as she took on the work of what a current-day adventurer would do. From low-stakes cullings of monsters, to following into dungeons to rescue wayward adventurers, Siban gained a wide breadth of experience under their belt by the time they were an adult.

Cassandra would eventually choose to retire in later years, wanting to spend the remainder of her middle-aged life in peace and simplicity. To repay their aunt as well as have means to sate their own wanderlust, Siban chose to continue their work independently. The title of adventurer was especially needed in the wake of the Seventh Umbral Calamity, leaving them no shortage of ways to provide others a helping hand. What gil did manage to come in was utilized sparingly for themself, otherwise set aside to support their aunt in retirement.

Far in the future would come Siban's twenty-seventh nameday. They expected it to come and go as it so often did: as a dull, lazy day if not saddled with a job. It would not be unlike the ordinary days that came before it, yet would ring hollower due to the occasion. They expected to check for work or family missives, to visit their aunt, to have a nice drink, to find someone about as nice to spend the night with...

They scratched the itch of restlessness, aimlessness unchanged, and that was it. The sun would come up the next morning. Siban would be long gone.

In every other world, this would remain true.

Not in this one.

Hooks

Rest in Familiar Places:

  • Siban can most often be found in the Dravanian Forelands or Mor Dhona, and within these regions, Tailfeather and Revenant's Toll respectively. They have been a consistent recommendation to others seeking hired help there, highlighting that they are efficient and act with due discretion.

Biased Recommendation:

  • Following the previous hook, Siban has especially been recommended by a certain middle-aged Hyuran woman who drifts in and out of Tailfeather. Though a lance is always at the ready for her, she much prefers cheer and chatter with the locals. She is rumored to live in a remote cottage in the nearby Chocobo Forest. She is known for being the aunt of Siban, making her recommendation clearly biased.

Budget-Friendly Adventurer:

  • Siban makes no secret of being a somewhat typical adventurer, so they will do a variety of things big or small to fund themself and their whims. They are most experienced with bodyguard work and rescue missions, but will offer their service for most things so long as it is not grossly dishonorable work. While they do utilize the networks that come with associating with the Adventurer Guilds, they have advertised outside of them just as much if not more.

  • Non-traditional payment may be accepted under the right circumstances, with negotiations to be discussed in person at a public location - as listed in any of their adverts. The description is as vague as it sounds, but for those short on funds or standard rewards, it might be worth considering.

Found In High Places:

  • Literally, as Siban greatly enjoys places high off the ground. They may be found idling or even taking naps on ledges and roofs, lance always nearby. For the most unconventional of situations, they can sometimes even be found in trees. They tend to be picky and try to choose locations that are most likely to be missed or overlooked by people filtering in and out of areas. However, it is not a foolproof plan against the observant or even just chance itself.

Maintenance Requests:

  • When needed, Siban will call upon the finer craftspeople of the star to touch up on or perform hefty repairs of their gear. While they might not be able to always tip handsomely, they always pay fair if not above market rates for a service.

  • They may even go so far as to commission custom pieces if they have funds to splurge! If not after gear, they certainly would never say no to new rings, hornpieces, or other elegant accessories.

Elusive Patient:

  • Siban has often needed medical care with the danger they get into. They could easily be found in the wild by good samaritans with medical expertise, or they themself could take initiative and go to local clinics. They are difficult to keep resting in bed if they're in any condition that isn't dying, but they'll never recover if they keep straining. Perhaps they just need a nudge in the right direction.

Combat Training:

  • In the past, they've worked with civilian-sorts to teach them some basics on how to protect themselves. While technically another job that they can be hired for, they would much rather just do so for the sake of helping others keep them and theirs safe.

A Simple Night at the Bar:

  • Not every interaction needs to be planned in-depth. Sometimes, it's fun to just see what happens if you put two people in a room. Sometimes, two people can just meet within the hospitable walls of a tavern abuzz with voices, sat at a well-stocked bar. Siban is always willing to strike up conversation with those nearby when equipped with a cup of ale. They tend to sip alcohol meagerly and politely to maintain a level head but, occasionally, they overindulge.

Blue Flowers:

  • Infrequently, Siban will venture to locations with one goal in mind: visit renown local florists in search of the highest quality blue flowers for a simple bouquet. They have never budged on blue in their visits, but every now and then, their eyes linger on red orchids far longer than ever intended.

  • Dark blue scales can be found on other areas of their body when not obscured by clothing, those being their neck, forearms, hips, thighs, and calves. Most often covered, though.

  • They have some scars spread across their body. While similarly obscured by clothing, most likely to be seen first are a couple of diagonal ones by the scales of their forearms.

  • They have a thin, lengthy, prehensile tail that forks into other small branches and a spear-like point.
